MyOpenMath answers, right under each question
Canvas Quiz Solver shows an answer under each MyOpenMath question, in the same tab. It reads math answer boxes, multiple choice, drop-downs and multi-part questions, and you type the answer yourself.
MyOpenMath answers show up under each question
No copying, no second tab. The answer appears where you already are: the assignment page.
Canvas Quiz Solver reads the MyOpenMath question on your screen and shows an AI answer right under it.
MyOpenMath draws its math with its own renderer, so pasting a question into a chatbot often loses the fractions, the exponents and the square roots. Here nothing is copied. The extension reads the math as MyOpenMath writes it, with your own numbers, and the answer appears under the last answer box of the question.
Discreet mode is on by default: a small icon sits under each question, and the answer shows when you click it. Turn discreet mode off in the popup and each question gets a Get Answer button instead. An assignment page with ten questions gets ten icons, one per question.
Press "Try a similar question" and MyOpenMath gives you new numbers. The extension sees the new version, and the next answer is for the numbers on your screen.
Answers come from AI, so read them like a second opinion from a smart classmate. They can be wrong, and you are the one who types and submits.
How it works on MyOpenMath, in three steps
About a minute: add the extension, open a question, click the icon once.
-
Add Canvas Quiz Solver to Chrome on your laptop
It is the same free extension Canvas students use. Pin it so the icon stays in your toolbar.
-
Open your assignment
Open it on MyOpenMath, Lumen OHM, WAMAP or XYZ Homework in its own tab, or inside the Canvas page your course uses. Both work.
-
Click the extension icon once
Answers turn on in that tab at once. Tap "Keep it on for this site" in the popup so it stays on next time. Inside Canvas, the popup offers "Turn on for MyOpenMath" instead. Then type the answer into MyOpenMath and submit.

Math boxes, choices, drop-downs and multi-part questions
MyOpenMath questions mix typed math with choices. This is what the extension reads today.
Reads
- Math answer boxes
- Plain number and text boxes
- Multiple choice and true or false
- Select all that apply
- Drop-down menus
- Paragraph answers
Multi-part questions
A question with several boxes gets one answer card that lists every part in order: part 1, part 2, and so on. Pictures in the question go with it.
Not yet
Questions that ask you to upload a file.
Off on purpose: pages with LockDown Browser, Respondus Monitor, Proctorio or Honorlock get nothing.
Lumen OHM, WAMAP and XYZ Homework too
MyOpenMath runs on IMathAS, an open-source math homework system, and so do three other sites.
IMathAS was written by David Lippman for algorithmically generated math homework. MyOpenMath is a free install of it built around open textbooks, Lumen Learning's Online Homework Manager (OHM) uses it, WAMAP is the install for Washington State colleges, and XYZ Homework helped fund it.
Because the four sites share the same question player, one reader covers all of them. If your course lives on ohm.lumenlearning.com, wamap.org or xyzhomework.com, the setup and the answer card are the same as on MyOpenMath.
At a glance
- MyOpenMath (myopenmath.com)
- Lumen OHM (ohm.lumenlearning.com)
- WAMAP (wamap.org)
- XYZ Homework (xyzhomework.com)
- Any of them shown inside a Canvas page
- Proctored tests
How to type the answer into MyOpenMath's math box
The answer card gives the expression or number. You enter it with MyOpenMath's own math box.
Many MyOpenMath questions use a math entry box that turns what you type into formatted math as you go. A few keys do most of the work, and the Preview button shows how MyOpenMath reads your entry before you submit. When a box has its own entry tip, the extension reads the tip too and gives the answer in that format.
^starts an exponent:x^2/starts a fraction:3/4sqrtmakes a square rootpigives the pi symbol- Arrow keys leave an exponent or a fraction
- Parentheses keep a group together:
(x+1)/2
Is there a MyOpenMath answer key?
Not one that matches your screen. MyOpenMath questions are written with randomizers, so each student gets a different version, and "Try a similar question" deals new numbers (MyOpenMath help).
That is why answer lists on study sites and Reddit rarely work: they show the method with somebody else's numbers. The extension answers the version on your screen.
You stay in control: no auto-submit, on purpose
It shows you the answer and stops there. Nothing is typed, clicked, submitted or advanced for you.
It shows, you type
The answer appears under the question. You enter it in MyOpenMath's boxes and menus, the same way you would without it.
Nothing runs on its own
Attempts count on MyOpenMath. A tool that submits for you can spend an attempt on a wrong answer before you see it. Here every submit is yours.
You can check it
Because you read each answer before you enter it, you catch the odd one that looks off, and you see the method before the test.
Where it does not run
It stays off on proctored tests and gets around nothing. Inside a Canvas page, it needs one click first.
Inside a Canvas page, turn it on once
Many courses open MyOpenMath from Canvas, inside the Canvas page. The first time, click the extension icon on that page and pick Turn on for MyOpenMath in the popup. The answer icons show in the page right away. If you already tapped "Keep it on for this site" on MyOpenMath's own site, it already works inside Canvas too.
Proctored tests
On pages with LockDown Browser, Respondus Monitor, Proctorio or Honorlock, nothing shows, and the popup says Not available on proctored exams. Read how to cheat on MyOpenMath, and what your instructor can see and does LockDown Browser record you before a test. For what MyOpenMath itself logs, read can MyOpenMath detect cheating.

Why not an answer list, a homework site or a ChatGPT tab?
Because MyOpenMath gives you your own numbers, and a second tab means retyping the math.
Answer lists and study-site uploads
Questions are randomized per student. A list from last term shows a method with numbers that are not yours, and a wrong entry costs an attempt.
A chatbot tab or a homework-for-hire site
You retype the problem and carry the answer back, or you hand your login to a stranger. Fractions and exponents get lost on the way; your account does not come back.
The answer in the page
Canvas Quiz Solver reads your version of the question where it already is, with your numbers, and shows the answer under it.

Questions about MyOpenMath answers
How do I get answers on MyOpenMath?
Add Canvas Quiz Solver to Chrome, open your MyOpenMath assignment, in its own tab or inside Canvas, and click the extension icon once. Answers turn on in that tab. Each question then shows a small icon under it; click it and the answer shows right there. You type it into MyOpenMath yourself.
Does MyOpenMath have an answer key?
Not one you can use. MyOpenMath questions are generated with random values, so students get different versions, and "Try a similar question" gives new numbers. A shared answer key rarely matches your screen. Canvas Quiz Solver answers the version you see.
Does it type or submit the answer for me?
No. It shows the answer under the question, and you type or pick it in MyOpenMath and submit it yourself. It never types into a box, clicks Submit or moves to the next question.
Does it work on Lumen OHM, WAMAP and XYZ Homework?
Yes. Lumen OHM, WAMAP and XYZ Homework run IMathAS, the same open-source software as MyOpenMath, so the same reader works there, in its own tab or inside a Canvas page.
Does it work when MyOpenMath opens inside Canvas?
Yes. The first time, click the extension icon on that Canvas page and pick "Turn on for MyOpenMath" in the popup. The answer icons show in the page right away. You do this one time. If you already turned it on at MyOpenMath's own site with "Keep it on for this site", it already works inside Canvas too.
Does it work on proctored MyOpenMath tests?
No. It turns off on pages with LockDown Browser, Respondus Monitor, Proctorio or Honorlock, and the popup says "Not available on proctored exams." It gets around nothing.
Is it the same subscription as Canvas?
Yes. One account and one plan cover MyOpenMath, Canvas quizzes and every other platform the extension reads.
Is it free?
You can add it free and try it with free answers. Free answers can run out mid-assignment. Unlimited is $14.99 a month or $48.99 for a 4-month semester.
