Snap a question on any normal website, see the answer next to it
Drag a box over a quiz or homework question in Chrome, and the answer shows right beside the box, in the same tab. No phone, no app, no upload, no copy and paste. It works on the sites we do not read yet.
- x = 3
- x = 4
- x = 9
How Snap a question works, in three steps
A screenshot solver that lives in the page: draw a box, read the answer beside it.
-
Click the extension icon and pick "Snap a question"
Or press Alt+Shift+S, or Option+Shift+S on a Mac. The popup closes and the page dims.
-
Drag a box over the question
Take in the whole question: the text, the math, any picture and the answer choices. Press Esc to cancel.
-
Read the answer next to the box
The answer card shows right beside your box. Pick or type the answer on the page yourself, then submit.
Need a second question on the same page? Snap again; earlier answers stay where they are. More in how to use Canvas Quiz Solver.
Where Snap works, and where it does not
Snap is for normal websites, and for questions without an icon on Canvas and the platforms. It stays off on proctored pages and gets around nothing.
Works
- Homework and practice sites
- Online quizzes on normal pages
- Study guides and worksheets on the web
- Questions with math, tables or pictures
Canvas and the platforms too
There, the answer icons under each question come first. For a question with no icon (a picture, an embedded tool, a type it does not read yet), use the button under "Question without a button?" in the popup.
Not there
chrome:// pages and the Chrome Web Store.
Off on purpose: pages with LockDown Browser, Respondus Monitor, Proctorio or Honorlock. There it says Not available on proctored exams.
Only the picture of your box
Snap sends a picture of the box you drew, and nothing else from the page.
When you finish the box, the extension takes a picture of the visible part of the tab, cuts it down to your box and sends only that picture to our server to work out the answer. It does not send the page's text or the rest of your screen. Nothing is taken until you draw the box. The full details are in our privacy policy.
Because Snap starts only when you click "Snap a question" or press the shortcut, it asks Chrome for no extra permission and does not run on sites in the background.
At a glance
- A picture of your box
- The page's text
- The rest of your screen
- Anything before you draw the box
Snap vs a phone photo app, Google Lens or a ChatGPT tab
All of them can read a picture of a question. The difference is where the answer ends up.
A phone photo app
You pick up your phone, photograph the screen, wait, then read the answer on a second device and carry it back. Glare and angles can blur the math.
Google Lens or a ChatGPT tab
Lens searches the web for what you select and shows results in a side panel. A chatbot needs a screenshot pasted into another tab and a prompt. Either way you read elsewhere and come back.
Snap a question
One drag on the page you are on. The answer for that question shows right next to your box, in the same tab, and you pick or type it yourself.
On these platforms, the answer is one click away
The extension reads the question itself and puts the answer under it. Snap covers a question without an icon, and everything else.

Questions about Snap a question
Where does Snap a question work?
On normal websites in Chrome: homework sites, practice pages, study guides, any page with a question on it. It also works on Canvas and the platforms the extension reads, such as MyOpenMath, ALEKS or IXL, for a question with no answer icon: a picture, an embedded tool or a type it does not read yet. There, use the button under "Question without a button?" in the popup.
Where does Snap not work?
Not on chrome:// pages or the Chrome Web Store, and not on proctored pages with LockDown Browser, Respondus Monitor, Proctorio or Honorlock. On a proctored page it says "Not available on proctored exams."
Does Snap work on PDFs?
Yes. On a PDF open in Chrome, click the extension icon and pick Snap a question. A picture of the page opens in a tab next to the PDF. Drag a box over the question there and the answer shows next to it. Esc takes you back to the PDF.
Do I need to copy the question?
No. You drag a box over the question as it is on the screen, with its math, pictures and choices. Nothing is copied or pasted.
What does Snap send?
Only a picture of the box you drew. The extension takes a picture of the visible tab, cuts it down to your box and sends that picture to our server for the answer. Nothing else from the page is sent, and nothing is taken until you draw the box.
Is there a keyboard shortcut?
Yes: Alt+Shift+S (Option+Shift+S on a Mac) starts a snap on the page you are on. Chrome lets you change it on its extension shortcuts page. Press Esc to cancel a snap.
Is Snap in the free answers?
Yes. A snap uses the free answers or your plan like any other answer. Unlimited is $14.99 a month or $48.99 for a 4-month semester, and it covers Snap, Canvas and every platform the extension reads.
Your next question, answered on the page.
Draw a box, read the answer beside it. You pick it, you stay in control.
