Can IXL detect cheating or switching tabs?
IXL does not watch your screen during skill practice. It records every question, your answer, your time and your SmartScore, and Live Classroom shows your teacher what you are doing as it happens. IXL's help pages document no tab or screenshot log for practice. On assessments with SecureTest, other tabs, copy, paste and screenshots are blocked.

What IXL shows your teacher
Your teacher sees reports, not your screen. IXL's help center describes these:

The pattern that gets noticed is a record that does not look like you. IXL tells teachers that students "with a high volume of questions answered and little SmartScore progress are the best candidates for intervention", and a teacher can hide the correct answers in the Questions Log and go over the questions with you.
Can IXL detect switching tabs?
IXL does not document it. None of the IXL help pages we read lists a tab, focus or window log for skill practice. That does not prove there is none: any web page can notice when it loses focus.
What IXL does show is time and idle time. Time away from the question does not count as practice, and in Live Classroom your tile turns gray when you have not answered for a few minutes. IXL says that gray tile means a student may be stuck or not "focused on their work", and the teacher can message you from it.
Can IXL detect screenshots, copy and paste or AI?
Not on skill practice, as far as IXL documents. IXL describes no screenshot, copy or AI detector for practice. It sees results: your answers, your pace and your SmartScore by session.
Assessments are different. IXL's help page on a secure browser for IXL assessments says IXL SecureTest, which is powered by Respondus LockDown Browser, blocks:
- Additional browser tabs
- Copy, paste and screenshot controls
- AI-powered extensions and other programs
It runs on the IXL LevelUp Diagnostic, Universal Screeners and Common Assessments. On the Diagnostic, Live Classroom also flags rushing: a student who answers two of three questions wrong, each in under three seconds. Schools can limit assessments to school hours, which IXL says "ensures that students are answering questions independently". On an IXL Quiz, teachers see time spent and answers chosen for each question.
