Can Khan Academy detect cheating or switching tabs?
Khan Academy does not watch your screen. Its teacher reports show what you worked on and when, your answer on each question, your scores, attempts, learning time and skill levels. Its help pages describe no tab or screenshot log, and Khan says its Interim Assessments do not use a locked browser yet.
- The Activity log shows what you worked on, when, and for how long.
- The Responses report shows your answer on each question, right or wrong.
- Reports mark "Used 'Start over'" and count every attempt.
- Teachers can read Khanmigo chats and get an alert when one is flagged.
- Switching tabs and screenshots: not described in any Khan Academy help page we read.
Our pickCanvas Quiz Solver works on Khan Academy. The answer shows under the question, in the same tab, and you enter it and click Check yourself. It stays off on proctored pages. For students 13 and older.
What your teacher sees on Khan Academy
Your teacher sees reports, not your screen. Khan Academy's help pages on teacher reports and the Individual Student Report describe these:
| Report | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Activity log | "Exactly what the student was working on, when they were working on it", the mastery level, problems correct and time spent. |
| Responses report | What you answered on each question, right or wrong, with your first score and best score (Khan Academy: Responses report). |
| Assignments | Date completed, the number of attempts, skill level and best score. |
| Start over | The note "Used 'Start over'", with restarted activities counted as attempts (Khan Academy: Start over). |
| Khanmigo usage and chat history | How many Khanmigo chats you had, the messages in them, and which were flagged. |
From Khan Academy's Help Center (sources below).
So the risk is a record that does not look like you: a unit test finished in minutes after a week of misses, or many attempts on one quiz. Teachers who grade with Khan Academy open the Responses report question by question.
Can Khan Academy detect switching tabs?
Khan Academy does not describe it. None of its teacher help pages we read lists a tab, focus or window report. That does not prove nothing is logged: any web page can notice when it loses focus.
Khan Academy says this about its own tests. On its Interim Assessments page, under "How do you prevent students from cheating?", Khan writes that the assessments "do not use a secure or locked browser", that it is exploring options, and that teachers should "actively proctor the assessment". It also suggests that districts try third-party tools, such as GoGuardian, or Chrome policies that turn off Chrome's AI features. Those tools belong to your school, not to Khan Academy.
Can Khan Academy detect screenshots or AI?
Khan Academy documents no screenshot detection and no AI detector for exercise answers. What it does see is Khanmigo, its own AI tutor. Teachers can read your Khanmigo chat history, and when a chat is flagged by moderation, a teacher gets an email and an alert.
Khan's guidelines for its AI features say: "Don't: Use AI to cheat or make decisions for you." Its rules also say not to use Khan Academy "to cheat or encourage academic dishonesty". Proctored tests are a separate matter: if your school adds a tool such as LockDown Browser, Proctorio or Honorlock, that tool decides what is recorded, and Canvas Quiz Solver turns off on those pages.
Where Canvas Quiz Solver fits
Canvas Quiz Solver puts the answer under the question, inside the Khan Academy page. It works on exercises, quizzes, unit tests, course challenges and mastery challenges.
How it works on Khan Academy, in 3 steps:
- Add Canvas Quiz Solver to Chrome on your laptop.
- Open a Khan Academy exercise, click the extension icon once and tap "Keep it on for this site".
- Click the small icon under the question, then enter the answer and click Check yourself.
Off on proctored pages. It enters nothing and never clicks Check.
- No second tab. The answer is in the tab you are already in.
- Your record is still your record. Your answers and learning time are logged as for every student.
Graphs and number lines are not promised yet. Answers come from AI and can be wrong. It is the same account as on Canvas: free answers to try, then $14.99 a month or $48.99 for a 4-month semester. More on the Khan Academy answers page and in how to cheat on Khan Academy. On a site we do not read yet, or a PDF open in Chrome? Snap the question.

Common questions
Can Khan Academy detect cheating?
Khan Academy describes no cheating detector for exercises. Its teacher reports show what you worked on and when, your answer on each question, your scores, attempts and learning time, so a record that does not look like you is what teachers notice.
Can Khan Academy see if you switch tabs?
Khan Academy's teacher help pages describe no tab-switch report. That does not prove nothing is logged, since any web page can notice when it loses focus. A proctoring or monitoring tool your school adds can watch tabs.
Does Khan Academy use a lockdown browser?
Not for its Interim Assessments, as of its own help page. Khan says they do not use a secure or locked browser yet, asks teachers to proctor in the room, and suggests that districts try third-party tools such as GoGuardian.
Can Khan Academy detect AI?
Khan Academy documents no AI detector for exercise answers. Teachers can read Khanmigo chats, see how many there were and get an alert when one is flagged by moderation.
Can teachers see your answers on Khan Academy?
Yes. The Responses report shows what you answered on each question, right or wrong, and the assignment reports show your attempts, best score and the date you completed it.
