How to cheat on Khan Academy, and what your teacher can see
Khan Academy does not watch your screen, but your teacher sees your scores, your answer on each question, your learning time and your skill levels. Answer keys rarely match your question, and answer-revealer scripts break when Khan changes. Unit tests and course challenges move your skill levels, so help there shows up later.
- Teachers see what you answered on each question, your scores and your learning time.
- Khan Academy's help pages describe no tab or screenshot log.
- Question sets can differ per student, so shared answer lists rarely fit.
- Answer-revealer scripts read Khan's hidden data and stop when it changes.
- Course challenges cannot be restarted once you start one.
Our pickCanvas Quiz Solver works on Khan Academy. It shows the answer under the question, in the same tab, and you enter it and click Check yourself. It stays off on proctored pages.
How to cheat on Khan Academy: the short answer
Most students who search how to cheat on Khan Academy want one thing: to finish a unit or an assignment without spending the whole evening on it. That is a fair thing to want. A unit can hold many skills, and a single slip on a unit test can drop a skill you already leveled up.
The honest answer has three parts. First, Khan Academy does not watch your screen, but it keeps a clear record of your work, and your teacher can open it. Second, the shortcuts students pass around, answer keys and answer-revealer scripts, either do not match your question or stop working when Khan Academy changes. Third, unit tests and course challenges move your skill levels, so help there shows up later as skills you cannot hold.
This guide goes through what Khan Academy shows teachers, each method students use, and where the line is. Every Khan Academy fact links to Khan Academy's own Help Center. Where Khan does not document something, we say so.
What your teacher can see on Khan Academy
Your teacher does not see your screen. They see reports. Khan Academy's list of teacher reports and its guide to the Reports tab describe these:
| Report | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Activity | Total minutes spent learning, how many skills each student worked on and leveled up, and mastery levels, with filters by learning time and skill. |
| Responses | What each student answered on each question in the content they completed. |
| Assignment scores | Scores and completion for each assignment, with a CSV download. |
| Skills | Each student's mastery level on each skill, on assigned work and, if the teacher chooses, on work across all of Khan Academy. |
| Individual Student Report | One student's work, learning time and skills, and the note "Used 'Start over'" when a student restarted an activity (Khan Academy on Start over). |
| Khanmigo usage | How many Khanmigo chats each student had, messages per chat, and whether any chat was flagged for moderation. |
| Other tabs, screenshots, copy and paste | Not described in any Khan Academy teacher help page we read. |
From Khan Academy's Help Center (sources below). "Not described" means we found nothing in Khan's public help. It does not prove that no such log exists: any web page can notice when it loses focus.
So the real risk is not a camera. It is a record that looks unlike you: an hour of nothing, then a perfect unit test in four minutes, or a string of right answers on skills you missed all week. Teachers who use Khan Academy for grades read the Responses report question by question. Tabs, screenshots and AI are covered in can Khan Academy detect cheating.
The methods students use on Khan Academy, ranked by risk
Ask Reddit or TikTok how to cheat on Khan Academy and the same methods come up. The table puts each one next to what it leaves on Khan Academy and how well it fits your question.
| Method | What it leaves on Khan Academy | Fits your question? |
|---|---|---|
| Someone else logs in and does it | The highest risk. Their pace and learning time are not yours, and the next quiz in class shows the gap. You also hand your login to someone else. | Yes, until a test you take yourself. |
| Answer-revealer scripts and free extensions (Khanware, userscripts) | Nothing documented, but you install code from a stranger with access to your school account, and Khan's rules ban tools that extract data from its site. | While they work. They read Khan's hidden page data and break when Khan changes it. |
| Answer keys, Quizlet sets, shared documents | Wrong answers, which drop skill levels. | Rarely. Question sets can differ per student. |
| ChatGPT or Google in a second tab | No documented tab log. You retype every question, with its fractions and roots, then carry the answer back. | Yes, if you retype the math correctly. |
| Photomath or a phone camera | Nothing about the phone. | Good on plain equations, weaker on word problems and grammar. |
| A bot that answers and checks for you | An even, fast pace with no reading time, and a wrong answer is checked before you see it. | It depends on the bot. You lose control of every Check. |
| Answer shown under the question (Canvas Quiz Solver) | No second tab. Your time and answers are recorded, as for every student. You read the answer and enter it yourself. | Yes. It reads the question on your screen, with your numbers. |
"What it leaves" is from Khan Academy's own help pages. Proctored tests have their own section below.
Answer-revealer scripts
Search for Khan Academy answers and you find userscripts on script sites, GitHub projects such as Khanware, and free Chrome extensions that promise to reveal every answer. Most work the same way: Khan Academy sends each question to your browser with the data it needs to grade it, and the script reads that data. When Khan changes how that data looks, the script stops until someone updates it. Khan Academy's rules say not to "use scraping tools, bots, or other tech to copy or extract data from our site".
Answer keys and shared documents
Teachers can set an assignment to give each student a different question set (Khan Academy teacher help). A list from last year shows a method with the wrong numbers, and each wrong answer you enter can drop a skill level.
A second tab with ChatGPT
This works, but it is slow. Khan Academy draws math with special rendering, so copying it into a chatbot loses fractions and exponents, and you retype them by hand. Then you type the answer back in the format Khan Academy expects.
Unit tests, course challenges and mastery: why help there backfires
Khan Academy tracks each skill at five levels, from Not started to Mastered, and only Proficient and Mastered count toward your mastery percentage. Exercises, quizzes, unit tests and course challenges can all move a skill up or down (Khan Academy on course and unit mastery).
- A high score sends skills up. A unit test passed with help marks skills Proficient that you cannot do yet, and the next practice on them can drop them again.
- Course challenges cannot be restarted. Khan Academy says a course challenge has no Retake: once started, you finish it as it is (Khan Academy on Retake).
- Mastery challenges check again. They give two questions on each of three skills you have practiced. Two right moves the skill up, two wrong moves it down (Khan Academy on mastery challenges).
The smart use of an answer is in practice, where you can see the method and try the next question yourself. On a graded unit test, think about what the score will say about you next week.
The answer shown under the question
Every method above sends you somewhere else for the answer, or runs code that reads Khan's hidden data. Canvas Quiz Solver is a Chrome extension that does neither. It reads the Khan Academy question on your screen and shows the answer right under it. For students 13 and older.
How it works on Khan Academy, in 3 steps:
- Add Canvas Quiz Solver to Chrome on your laptop. It is the same extension Canvas students use.
- Open a Khan Academy exercise, quiz or unit test and click the extension icon once. Answers turn on in that tab; tap "Keep it on for this site" so it stays on.
- Click the small icon under the question to see the answer, then enter it yourself and click Check.
Off on proctored pages. It enters nothing in Khan Academy and never clicks Check.
- No second tab. The answer is in the tab you are already in.
- No retyping the math. It reads fractions, exponents and roots as Khan Academy shows them.
- Your own question. It answers the question on your screen, so a different question set does not get in the way.
- Question types: multiple choice, select all, number boxes, math input, drop-downs and several blanks. Graphs and number lines are not promised yet.
- You stay in control. Discreet mode is on by default, so the answer shows only when you click the small icon.
It works on exercises, quizzes, unit tests, course challenges and mastery challenges. Answers come from AI and can be wrong, so check the ones that count. It is the same account and plan as on Canvas: you get free answers to try, and Unlimited is $14.99 a month or $48.99 for a 4-month semester. See everything it reads on the Khan Academy answers page, or the worked methods on Khan Academy math answers. On a site we do not read yet? Snap the question.
Proctored tests: the line
Some schools give tests through a proctoring tool such as LockDown Browser, Respondus Monitor, Proctorio or Honorlock. Those tools can lock the browser, record the webcam or watch tabs, and that is where this guide stops helping. Canvas Quiz Solver turns off on pages that show their marks, and it gets around nothing. Read what LockDown Browser records before you start one.
What happens if a teacher thinks you cheated
Your teacher decides, not Khan Academy. Khan gives them the evidence: your answers in the Responses report, your scores, your learning time and the "Used 'Start over'" note.
Also know the platform rules. Khan Academy's rules on what is allowed say: "Don't: Use Khan Academy to cheat or encourage academic dishonesty." When Khan believes a user breaks its rules, it says it may remove content or restrict access. Your school's honesty policy decides what counts as cheating in your class, so read your syllabus.

Common questions
Can Khan Academy detect cheating?
Khan Academy does not say it runs a cheating detector on exercises. Its teacher reports show your scores, your answer on each question, your learning time, your skill levels and when you used Start over, so a record that does not look like you is what teachers notice.
Can Khan Academy see if you switch tabs?
Khan Academy's teacher help pages describe no tab-switch report. That does not prove nothing is logged, since any web page can notice when it loses focus. If your teacher runs the test inside a proctoring tool, that tool can watch tabs.
Can Khan Academy detect AI?
Khan Academy documents no AI detector for exercise answers. Teachers do see Khanmigo chats, how many there were and whether any were flagged, through the Khanmigo usage report.
Do Khan Academy answer-revealer scripts still work?
Some do for a while. They read the answer out of the data Khan Academy sends to the page, so they break when Khan changes that data, and you run code from a stranger. Khan's rules also ban tools that extract data from its site.
Can teachers see your answers on Khan Academy?
Yes. The Responses report shows what each student answered on each question of the content they completed, and the assignment scores report shows scores and completion. Teachers can also download scores as a CSV file.
Is cheating on Khan Academy against the rules?
Yes. Khan Academy's rules say not to use Khan Academy to cheat or encourage academic dishonesty, and Khan may restrict access when it believes a user breaks them. Your school's honesty policy decides what counts as cheating in your class.
