How to see answers on a Google Forms quiz
The answer key is not in the page. In our test of a self-marking Google Forms quiz, page source and inspect element showed the questions and choices but no right answer. After you submit, you see correct answers only if the teacher allows it. To see an answer before you submit, you need a tool that works it out.
- Page source and inspect element showed no answer key in our 2026-10-26 test.
- "View score" shows correct answers only if the teacher turned that on.
- Grading happens after you submit; the key did not reach the page in our test.
- Locked mode emails the teacher if you open another tab.
Our pickCanvas Quiz Solver works on Google Forms quizzes. It shows an AI answer under each question, in the same tab, and you pick or type it and submit yourself. Not in locked mode.
How to see answers on Google Forms: the short answer
Videos and posts about Google Forms answers all promise the same trick: open the page source or inspect element, search the code, and the answer key is there. We wanted to know if that is still true, so we tested it instead of repeating it.
It is not true for the answer key. The question text and the choices are in the page, because your browser needs them to draw the form. Which choice is right was not, in our test. The quiz is graded after you submit, and then shows you only what the teacher allows.
This guide shows what we tested, what each method gives you, what the teacher sees, and the one way to see an answer under each question before you submit. Every Google Forms fact links to Google's own help. Where Google does not document something, we say so.
What we tested, and how
On 2026-10-26 we opened a public, self-marking Google Forms quiz, made by a teacher to show each question type, in a normal Chrome window, signed out. We knew the right answer to its multiple choice questions, and the word its short answer question accepts.
- Page source. Google Forms puts each question in a block of data in the page. We read that block. Every choice had the same fields, and nothing set the right choice apart from the wrong ones.
- Short answer. We searched the whole page for the word the quiz accepts. It was not there.
- Inspect element. The elements show the same text and choices as the data, with no mark on the right one.
One quiz is one quiz, so we say what we saw and nothing more. An older trick looked for response validation rules (for example, "text must contain") in the page. We did not have a form with such a rule, so we do not say whether it still works.
Every method, and what it really gives you
| Method | What you get | Before you submit? |
|---|---|---|
| Page source (Ctrl+U) | The questions and the choices. No right answer in our test. | Yes, but without the key. |
| Inspect element | The same text as the page source, in the elements. | Yes, but without the key. |
| "View score" after you submit | Your score, and missed questions or correct answers only if the teacher turned those on. | No. |
| A friend's answers or a group chat | Answers to their copy, which may not match yours if the teacher changed the quiz. | Yes, if they finished first. |
| ChatGPT or Google in another tab | An answer, after you copy each question and every choice across. | Yes. Not in locked mode. |
| Answer under each question (Canvas Quiz Solver) | An AI answer under each question, read from the page. No copying. | Yes. Not in locked mode. |

"View score" and released grades
Google's help on quizzes says the teacher can choose whether students see missed questions, correct answers and point values. Grades release right after each submission by default, or later, after manual review, if the teacher picks that. So "view score" can show every right answer, or only a number. It depends on settings you cannot change.
The answer key itself
Teachers make the answer key in the form editor: Google lets them mark right answers on short answer, multiple choice, checkboxes, drop-down, multiple choice grid and checkbox grid questions (Google on answer keys). In our test, none of it reached the page a student opens.
What the teacher sees when you take the quiz
On a plain Google Forms quiz, the teacher sees responses: a summary with frequently missed questions and score ranges, and each person's answers, with an email address if the form collects them (Google on grading quizzes). Google's help describes no tab-switch report on a plain quiz.
Locked mode is different. It runs on Chromebooks managed by a school, and Google says the teacher gets an email if a student exits the quiz or opens another tab (Google on locked mode). Some teachers also add proctor add-ons that track tabs. The full breakdown is in can Google Forms detect cheating.
See an answer under each question
Since the key is not in the page, the useful question is not where the answer is hidden but how to get a good answer fast without leaving the form. Canvas Quiz Solver is a Chrome extension that reads each question of the Google Forms quiz on your screen and shows an AI answer right under it.
How it works on Google Forms, in 3 steps:
- Add Canvas Quiz Solver to Chrome on your laptop. It is the same extension Canvas students use.
- Open the quiz at its docs.google.com/forms address and click the extension icon once. Answers turn on in that tab; tap "Keep it on for this site" so it stays on.
- Click the small icon under a question to see the answer. Pick or type it yourself, and submit the form when you are done.
Not in locked mode, and off on proctored pages. It fills in nothing and never submits the form.
- No copying. It reads the question and its choices where they are.
- Question types: multiple choice, true or false, checkboxes, drop-downs, short answer, paragraph and both kinds of grid, including items with a picture.
- Discreet by default. The answer shows only when you click the small icon under the question.
- You stay in control. You pick or type each answer, and you submit.
Answers come from AI and can be wrong, so check the ones that count. It is the same account and plan as on Canvas: you get free answers to try, and Unlimited is $14.99 a month or $48.99 for a 4-month semester. See everything it reads on the Google Forms answers page. If the form is embedded inside another page, open it at its own address. On a site we do not read yet? Snap the question.
How to cheat on Google Forms: where the line is
Some students search how to cheat on Google Forms. The honest answer is the table above: the key is not in the page, so the tricks that promise it waste your time, and the methods that work all come down to getting an answer from somewhere else.
Where the quiz runs in locked mode or with a proctor add-on, your teacher has chosen to watch for exactly that, and the extension stays off. Whether a tool counts as cheating in your class is set by your teacher and your school's honesty policy, so read your syllabus.

Common questions
Can you see answers on Google Forms with inspect element?
Not the answer key, in our test. On a self-marking quiz we opened on 2026-10-26, the page data held the questions and choices, but no choice was marked as right, and the accepted short answer was not in the page at all.
Can you see Google Forms answers before submitting?
Not from Google Forms itself, in our test: the answer key was not in the page. After you submit, you see only what the teacher allows. A tool that shows answers before you submit has to work them out, as Canvas Quiz Solver does with AI.
How do I see the correct answers after I submit?
Only if the teacher allows it. Google Forms lets the teacher choose whether you see missed questions, correct answers and point values, and whether grades show right after you submit or later, after manual review.
Is there a way to get around a locked Google Form?
We do not cover that. Locked mode runs on school-managed Chromebooks, and Google says the teacher gets an email if you exit the quiz or open another tab. Canvas Quiz Solver does not work in locked mode.
Does Canvas Quiz Solver show the teacher's answer key?
No. It never sees the answer key. It reads each question and its choices on the page and shows an AI answer under it. The answer can be wrong, so read it before you pick it.
