How to see answers on a Canvas quiz: every method compared
Canvas documents no way to see correct answers while a quiz is open. Every method brings the answer from somewhere else, and that decides what the quiz log records.
- Inspect element shows the code of the page you already see, not an answer key.
- The answer key shows after you submit, and only if your instructor allows it.
- Quiz Loader copies answers from an earlier attempt, so it cannot help on a first attempt.
- ChatGPT or Quizlet in a second tab logs Stopped viewing on every trip.
Our pickCanvas Quiz Solver shows the answer right below each question, inside the quiz page. No second tab and no copy into ChatGPT, so there is no page switch for the quiz log to record.

After you submit, Canvas can show the correct answers, if your instructor's settings allow it. That case has its own guide: why Canvas correct answers are hidden, and when they show.
During the quiz, Canvas gives you nothing. Instructure's guides describe correct answers only on the quiz results page, after you submit, and describe no way to check an answer while the quiz is open. So a Canvas answers hack or answer key, in practice, means an answer from outside Canvas for a question still on screen.
Where that answer comes from matters, because the Classic Quizzes quiz log writes "Stopped viewing the Canvas quiz-taking page" when you open a new tab or move to a different program, and "Resumed" when you come back. The Canvas API stores that pair with "event_data": null: no tab, site or app. See what the Canvas quiz log shows a professor.
Canvas Quiz Solver puts the answer right below the question, inside the Canvas quiz page. You do not open a second tab, you do not copy the question into ChatGPT, and you do not switch windows, so there is no page switch for the quiz log to record. It works on Classic Quizzes and New Quizzes, and you can start free.
Every method, side by side
The methods students try, from Reddit threads to TikTok videos, against a plain Canvas quiz log. Proctored exams are a different case.
| Method | Works on a first attempt | Leaves the quiz page | What the log shows |
|---|---|---|---|
| Inspect element or page source | No documented answer to find | No | No entry of its own |
| Quiz Loader | No, it needs an earlier attempt | No | Viewed and Answered, as for any student |
| Quizlet search | Only if your instructor reused a public set | Yes | Stopped viewing per trip on the same computer |
| ChatGPT in a second tab | Yes, but AI can be wrong | Yes | Stopped viewing per trip, site not named |
| Answer key after submission | No, only after you submit | Not during the quiz | Nothing during the attempt |
| In-page extension (Canvas Quiz Solver) | Yes | No | Viewed and Answered, as for any student |
Inspect element and page source
Some videos show students right-clicking a quiz and choosing Inspect. Inspect element and View page source show the code of the page already on your screen. We found no Instructure source that says the correct answer is part of the quiz page, so do not plan a quiz around a video that shows one.
Quiz Loader and earlier attempts
Canvas Quiz Loader is a free extension that copies correct answers from your previous attempts. On a first attempt it has nothing to copy, and on a retake the earlier results must be visible to you. See why Canvas Quiz Loader stops working, and what works instead.
Quizlet search
Flashcards help only when your instructor reuses a public set, and Canvas lets instructors shuffle the answers of a quiz, so a saved card may not match the screen.
ChatGPT in a second tab
This works on a first attempt, and it is what the quiz log was built to see: opening a new tab is on Instructure's trigger list. Instructure says timed quizzes "do not pause if the student navigates away from the quiz". More in whether Canvas can detect ChatGPT.
The answer key after you submit
Classic Quizzes and New Quizzes show correct answers on the results page when your instructor allows it: right after you submit, after your last attempt, from a date, or never. Useful for the next quiz, not this one.
An answer extension inside the quiz page
The one method that puts the answer next to the question: no second tab, no window to click into and no question to retype.
Canvas Quiz Solver: the answer next to the question
Every method above keeps the answer somewhere else. Canvas Quiz Solver, a Chrome extension, brings it to the question:
- Add Canvas Quiz Solver to Chrome from the Chrome Web Store.
- Open your Canvas quiz as usual. A Get Answer button appears on each question.
- Click it. The answer appears right below the question, inside the Canvas quiz page.
No second tab and no copy into ChatGPT, so no page switch for the quiz log to record. It reads the question itself, so it works on a first attempt, on Classic Quizzes and New Quizzes. The answers come from AI and can be wrong: read each one before you pick it.
A web page cannot list the Chrome extensions you have installed. Chrome runs an extension's content script in an isolated world, and by default no extension files are web accessible. More in whether Canvas can detect Chrome extensions.
Start free, then one plan covers every quiz: $9.99 a month, cancel any time. It does not run inside LockDown Browser, and Honorlock can turn Chrome extensions off during a proctored exam. This page gives no steps to get around a proctoring tool.

Common questions
Is there a way to see answers on Canvas?
Canvas shows correct answers only after you submit, and only if your instructor allows it. During the attempt, Canvas Quiz Solver generates an AI answer right below each question, inside the quiz page. AI answers can be wrong, so check them.
Can you see Canvas quiz answers with inspect element?
Inspect element shows the code of the page already on your screen. Instructure's guides describe correct answers only on the results page, after you submit and when your instructor allows it. We found no Instructure source that says the answer is in the quiz page.
Is there a Canvas answer key?
Not one you can look up. Correct answers show only if the instructor allows it: right after you submit, after your last attempt, from a show date, or never. During the quiz, Canvas Quiz Solver shows an AI answer right below each question.
Is there a Canvas answers hack that works on a first attempt?
Quiz Loader needs an earlier attempt and the answer key comes after you submit, so neither helps here. ChatGPT in a second tab works, but each trip logs Stopped viewing. Canvas Quiz Solver reads the question itself and shows the answer below it, without leaving the page.
Does the quiz log show where I looked for answers?
No. When the quiz page loses focus, the log writes Stopped viewing and then Resumed, each with a time, but it never names the tab, site or app you went to.
Does an answer extension show up in the quiz log?
Canvas Quiz Solver works inside the quiz page, so it causes no Stopped viewing. The log shows the same Viewed and Answered events as for every student, and a web page cannot list your Chrome extensions.
