How to read this page

Most Connect courses use the same question player and the same SmartBook, so the same question types work across subjects; what changes is the extra tools each subject adds.

A psychology course leans on SmartBook and multiple choice. A chemistry course leans on numeric questions with formulas. An accounting course has worksheets.

Each section below says what that subject's Connect course usually asks, which parts get an answer in the page, and which parts do not, so you know before you install. The facts about each course come from McGraw Hill's own subject pages, linked in each section. Pick your subject:

Biology

Biology in Connect is SmartBook plus question-heavy homework: matching, ordering and multiple choice, which the extension reads.

McGraw Hill's biology page describes Connect questions that are "interactive or include a tutorial or animation", SmartBook with AI Reader, interactive graphs, and Virtual Labs. The question pages are where the extension helps: match the organelle to its function, put the phases of mitosis in order, pick the right answer about osmosis.

For matching it lists every pair, and for ordering it gives a numbered list. Interactive graphs and Virtual Labs are separate tools, so plan to do those yourself.

Answers

  • Multiple choice, true/false
  • Matching (organelles, functions)
  • Ordering (mitosis, the cell cycle)
  • SmartBook chapters

Not supported yet

  • Virtual Labs
  • Interactive graphing questions
  • Labeling and hotspot figures

Matching

Anatomy & physiology

A&P quizzes, homework and SmartBook work; labeling figures, APR and Virtual Labs do not.

A&P gets more searches than any other Connect subject, and it has the most figure work. Matching (bones to regions, hormones to glands) and ordering (the path of blood through the heart) get full answers.

Labeling questions, where you drag names onto a drawing, show "This question type isn't supported yet." The full breakdown, with a labeling example, is on anatomy and physiology answers.

Answers

  • Multiple choice, matching, ordering
  • Fill in the blank
  • SmartBook chapters

Not supported yet

  • Labeling and hotspot figures
  • APR dissection activities
  • Virtual Labs

Microbiology

Microbiology follows the biology pattern: SmartBook and question pages work, labs do not.

McGraw Hill's microbiology page lists SmartBook, interactive questions and animations, assignable modules such as "Emerging and Re-emerging Infectious Diseases", Virtual Labs, and Prep for Microbiology. Typical questions are check all that apply (which of these are gram-positive), matching (pathogen to disease) and multiple choice on immunity.

The card names every box to tick on check all that apply, so you do not stop at the first right one. We have not tested Prep for Microbiology, so do not count on it.

Answers

  • Check all that apply
  • Matching, multiple choice
  • SmartBook chapters
  • Module questions on question pages
  • Micrograph questions (check them)

Not supported yet

  • Virtual Labs
  • Prep for Microbiology (not tested)

Chemistry

Chemistry questions in Connect are often numeric with formulas, and the extension reads typeset math and gives the number.

Fractions, exponents, subscripts and units in the question are read as math, so a stoichiometry or molarity question arrives in one piece. Many of these questions are algorithmic: McGraw Hill's resource assistance guide says students can retry science questions "with new algorithmic values", so a posted answer rarely has your numbers.

One thing to check first: McGraw Hill's chemistry page leads with ALEKS Chemistry, and many chemistry courses run on ALEKS instead of Connect. ALEKS is a different product, and the extension does not work there.

Answers

  • Numeric with typeset math
  • Multiple choice, true/false
  • Fill in the blank
  • SmartBook chapters

Not supported yet

  • ALEKS Chemistry
  • Drawing structures, graphing
  • Virtual Labs
Sample question · numeric

What is the molarity of a solution made by dissolving 0.50 mol of NaCl in enough water to make 0.200 L of solution?

Answer card2.5

The card gives the number. The unit (M) stays next to the box, where Connect prints it.

Nutrition

Nutrition mixes textbook questions, which work, with analysis of your own diet, which no tool can answer for you.

McGraw Hill's nutrition page describes NutritionCalc Plus, a diet analysis tool with "more than 106,000 foods", and Assess My Diet assignments that ask about "dietary patterns based on generated reports from NutritionCalc Plus". Those questions are about your own food log, so the right answer is in your report, not in the textbook.

The chapter quizzes and SmartBook are standard questions: which vitamins are fat-soluble, what a gram of fat supplies in calories, which foods are complete proteins. Those get an answer in the page.

Answers

  • Chapter quiz questions
  • Check all that apply (fat-soluble vitamins)
  • Case study questions on question pages
  • SmartBook chapters

Not supported yet

  • NutritionCalc Plus
  • Assess My Diet answers about your own diet
  • Virtual Labs

Psychology

Psychology courses lean on SmartBook and multiple choice, and both are supported.

McGraw Hill's psychology page lists SmartBook, Interactive Case Studies and Faces: Interactive for Abnormal Psychology, and Quest: Journey Through the Lifespan, "an engaging and innovative learning game", for human development. The everyday questions are terms and studies: conditioned stimulus or unconditioned response, which lobe handles vision, what Piaget's stages are in order.

The extension answers those in the page, including ordering questions. Quest is a game, and the Abnormal case studies are activities rather than question pages, so we do not promise them.

Answers

  • Multiple choice
  • Ordering (Piaget, sleep stages)
  • Matching terms
  • SmartBook chapters

Not supported yet

  • Quest: Journey Through the Lifespan
  • Interactive Case Studies, Faces: Interactive (not tested)

Sociology

Sociology question pages and SmartBook work; the application-based activities and Writing Assignment Plus do not.

McGraw Hill's sociology page lists SmartBook, news-based activities, Apply the Perspectives, "In Their Shoes" application-based activities, Visual Data Analysis, and Writing Assignment Plus. A common question is matching: functionalism, conflict theory and symbolic interactionism to the statement each would make.

That gets every pair on the card. The application-based activities are interactive scenarios, and Writing Assignment Plus is its own writing tool, so neither is supported.

Answers

  • Matching theories and perspectives
  • Multiple choice, true/false
  • SmartBook chapters

Not supported yet

  • "In Their Shoes" and other application-based activities
  • Writing Assignment Plus
  • Visual Data Analysis questions that depend on the chart

Economics

Economics multiple choice and numeric questions work; the graphing tools do not.

McGraw Hill's economics page says its graphing is "a scaffolded journey", with "real graphing tools", Interactive Graphs with FRED data, Application-Based Activities that are "15-minute simulations", and Excel in Connect. Those are tools, not question pages, so the extension does not answer them.

Much of the rest of a principles course is multiple choice on supply, demand and policy, and numeric questions on elasticity, GDP and multipliers. Those get an answer under the question.

Answers

  • Multiple choice (supply, demand, policy)
  • Numeric (elasticity, GDP)
  • Questions about a printed graph (check them)
  • SmartBook chapters

Not supported yet

  • Graphing questions, Interactive Graphs
  • Application-Based Activities
  • Excel in Connect
Sample question · numeric

When the price of a good rises from $10 to $12, the quantity demanded falls from 100 to 80 units. Using the midpoint method, what is the absolute value of the price elasticity of demand? Round to two decimals.

Answer card1.22

Rounding and sign are as the question asks. Check the card against the rounding rule your question gives.

Accounting

Accounting quizzes and SmartBook work; journal entry worksheets and the accounting tool do not.

Accounting is the subject where the limit matters most. Multiple choice, check all that apply and single-box numeric questions get an answer.

Journal entry worksheets, the accounting tool and multi-part worksheet problems show "This question type isn't supported yet." In many courses, much of the chapter homework is worksheets, so read accounting answers: what works and what does not before you pay.

Answers

  • Multiple choice, check all that apply
  • Single-box numeric
  • SmartBook chapters

Not supported yet

  • Journal entry worksheets
  • The accounting tool
  • Excel in Connect

Marketing

Marketing question pages and SmartBook work; the marketing simulation and video tools do not.

McGraw Hill's marketing page lists a "3D marketing simulation", Application-Based Activities, Video Cases with comprehension questions, marketing analytics activities, and GoReact video capture for presentations. The simulation, the activities and GoReact are tools, so they are not supported.

Video Case questions that come in the normal Connect question page are read like any other question; you watch the video yourself. Chapter quizzes in marketing are often multiple choice and true/false on the four Ps, segmentation and the marketing mix.

Answers

  • Multiple choice, true/false
  • Video Case questions on question pages
  • SmartBook chapters

Not supported yet

  • The marketing simulation
  • Application-Based Activities, analytics activities
  • GoReact video capture

Business and management

Intro business and management courses are mostly question pages and SmartBook, which work.

McGraw Hill's business page stresses skills such as "analytics, Excel, critical thinking, AI". In the course itself, the graded work is often SmartBook chapters and chapter quizzes: types of business ownership, management functions, motivation theories matched to their authors.

Those get an answer in the page. Excel work, SIMnet and simulations are separate tools, so they are not supported.

Answers

  • Multiple choice, true/false
  • Matching (theories to authors)
  • SmartBook chapters

Not supported yet

  • Excel in Connect, SIMnet
  • Simulations and Application-Based Activities

Statistics

Statistics numeric questions with formulas work; Excel in Connect does not, and chart questions need a check.

McGraw Hill's business statistics page lists "algorithmic questions" and Excel training alongside Connect, so a classmate's answers rarely match your numbers. The extension reads your numbers and the formula in the question, and gives the number: a z-score, a mean, a probability, a confidence interval bound.

Rounding rules matter in statistics, so check the card against the decimals your question asks for. A histogram or chart in the question is sent with it, but a value read off a chart can be misread, so check those.

Answers

  • Numeric with typeset math
  • Multiple choice on concepts
  • Chart questions (check them)
  • SmartBook chapters

Not supported yet

  • Excel in Connect
  • ALEKS (some stats courses)

Spanish

Spanish fill in the blank and multiple choice work; speaking and the game do not.

McGraw Hill's world languages page lists GoReact speaking activities, tutorial videos, an Adaptive Learning Assignment, and Practice Spanish, "an immersive 3-D language game". Conjugation and vocabulary questions are fill in the blank, and the card gives the word with its accents (está, comí, café). Connect has a special character palette for language courses, so you type the accents yourself.

GoReact recordings and Practice Spanish are tools, so they are not supported, and we have not tested the Adaptive Learning Assignment. If nothing from the extension shows on a Spanish assignment, that activity runs in a player it does not read yet.

Answers

  • Fill in the blank (conjugation, vocabulary)
  • Multiple choice, matching
  • Short answer

Not supported yet

  • GoReact speaking and recording
  • Practice Spanish game
  • Adaptive Learning Assignment (not tested)

Question types it reads in every subject

The question types are the same across subjects, because Connect courses share one question player and SmartBook.

Connect homework, quizzes, exams

  • Multiple choice, true/false, yes/no
  • Check all that apply
  • Fill in the blank
  • Numeric, with typeset math
  • Matching and ranking
  • Short answer and essay

SmartBook

  • Multiple choice, true/false
  • Multi-select
  • Fill in the blank
  • Matching and ordering

The answer shows above High, Medium and Low.

Not supported yet, in any subject: worksheets and the accounting tool, labeling and hotspot figures, graphing and drawing, external tools (Virtual Labs, SIMnet, ALEKS, simulations), document uploads, and the older Connect player.

On a question type it does not read, it shows "This question type isn't supported yet." instead of a guess.

It sends the words, math and choices of a question together with its pictures and their alt text. A figure with numbered labels or a value to read off a graph can still be misread, so check those. It stays off on proctored exams: the popup says "Not available on proctored exams."

In every subject, it shows the answer and stops there. You pick, you submit. Setup is the same too: see McGraw Hill Connect answers.

Subjects on McGraw Hill, answered

Does it work for every McGraw Hill Connect subject?

Yes, for the question types it reads: multiple choice, true/false, check all that apply, fill in the blank, numeric, matching, ranking, short answer and essay in Connect, and the six SmartBook types. What does not work depends on the subject's extra tools, such as worksheets in accounting or graphing in economics.

Is there a Connect answer key for my subject?

Not for students. Instructor resources stay with instructors, and many Connect questions change their numbers or order for each student, so shared keys often do not match your version.

Does it work on ALEKS?

No. ALEKS is a separate McGraw Hill product. Many chemistry and some math and statistics courses use ALEKS, and the extension does not run there.

Which subject works best?

Courses that are mostly SmartBook and multiple choice, such as psychology, sociology, marketing and intro business. Courses with many worksheets or graphing questions, such as accounting and some economics sections, get less from it.

Does it work on proctored exams?

No. On a proctored exam (Proctorio and similar) it stays off in every subject. The popup says "Not available on proctored exams." and nothing shows on the page.

Is it free?

You get free answers to try it on a real assignment. Unlimited answers are $14.99 a month, or $48.99 every 4 months, with a 7-day money-back guarantee. One plan covers every Connect course, SmartBook and Canvas.
