SnapGPT review: what you get on Canvas
For SnapGPT, Canvas is one of many sites, next to McGraw Hill Connect, ALEKS and Pearson MyLab.
SnapGPT
Screenshot answers. Click the camera button in the bottom-left corner, or press Alt+Shift+X, and it captures what is visible. Multiple choice comes back as a letter "in a small popup"; written answers stream into a floating window.
Long questions take extra steps: you scroll and capture up to 3 screenshots. On busy pages its docs tell you to draw a box around one question.
Autopilot (Plus) works through every question on the page. Fees are "generally non-refundable".
Canvas Quiz Solver
One button on each question. Click it and the answer appears right below that question, on Classic Quizzes and New Quizzes.
Multiple choice, matching, ordering, fill in the blank, essay, image questions and more.
You can start free. Then one plan: $9.99 a month for unlimited questions, with no credits.
Can Canvas detect SnapGPT? What the quiz log records
In Classic Quizzes the log shows "Stopped viewing the Canvas quiz-taking page" when a student "closes the browser tab, opens a new browser tab, or navigates to a different program", and "Resumed" on return (Instructure quiz log guide). The events behind those lines, page_blurred and page_focused, carry no data, so the log never names the tab or the site (Canvas quiz events API). See what the quiz log records when you switch tabs and the Canvas quiz log, event by event.
SnapGPT says it works "entirely inside your current tab". What it does to the quiz log is not stated on their site. Its Canvas page does say Respondus LockDown Browser disables all extensions, "SnapGPT included".
Both tools keep you in the quiz tab. The difference is where the answer lands. Canvas Quiz Solver puts the answer right below the question, inside the Canvas quiz page. You do not open a second tab, you do not copy the question into ChatGPT, and you do not switch windows, so there is no page switch for the quiz log to record, and there is no screenshot to frame. It works on Classic Quizzes and New Quizzes, and you can start free.
Which one should you use?
For Canvas quizzes, Canvas Quiz Solver fits better:
The answer sits under its question. No screenshot to frame, no second capture for a long question, and no guessing which question a letter in a popup belongs to.
Built for Canvas question types. Matching and ordering work too; SnapGPT's Canvas page does not list them.
Simple pricing. The same $9.99 a month, and no weekly plan that renews every 7 days.
More students have rated it. 96 ratings against 4 for SnapGPT on the Chrome Web Store.
Pick SnapGPT if you study on many sites, use Firefox, want Autopilot or flashcards, a free plan that resets every day, or a yearly price. Canvas Quiz Solver does none of those.
A SnapGPT alternative built for Canvas quizzes
Canvas Quiz Solver puts the answer right below the question, inside the Canvas quiz page. You do not open a second tab, you do not copy the question into ChatGPT, and you do not switch windows, so there is no page switch for the quiz log to record. A web page cannot list the Chrome extensions you have installed (see what Canvas can and cannot see about your extensions). It works on Classic Quizzes and New Quizzes. You can start free, then it costs $9.99 a month for unlimited questions. AI answers can be wrong, so check them against your course material.
It does not run inside LockDown Browser, and Honorlock can turn Chrome extensions off during a proctored exam.
